A Historian's Diary - Phil Blood
Week 2
Only a short note for the diary this week.
The week was spent sorting the digital records Bettina acquired from the Munich archives and filing them with the content from Berlin and London. The Munich totals are - 1,367 photos from 19 files - 900 plus documents and 440 pictures. Filtering this content into the existing collection is taking time to ensure against duplication and identifying any contradictory evidence. There will be a final research trip to Munich in the Spring to conclude the research.

Overall we have acquired about 120 files across four fields/periods - Imperial German, the military economy, political security post 1918 and the German hunt.
From the SWOT analysis, I can almost certainly confirm the archival documents are a ‘strength’ for the project. A few more weeks to go before finishing the SWOT, but at this stage, sources - both primary and secondary - are more than plentiful.
I began to generate some new ideas for the final structure of the book, but the energy levels have been zapped by the flu.
This bronchial flu remains a menace to working. A large part of our Aachen community are suffering with several friends in hospital with severe symptoms. The rumours circulating claim it’s an off-cut of COVID - it’s certainly horrible.
More next week.
