Hitler Ally Day
Or how Russia started WW2 with Nazi Germany
A quick post because this is a subject that has been covered by infinitely more competent writers than I. I however feel could write a mediocre book on the subject off the top of my head.
One of the most important steps towards World War 2 was the forging of an alliance between two genocidal regimes - Nazi Germany and the USSR, a Russian empire dressed up in Communist branding. The USSR had started genocide way before Nazi Germany, with the Holodomor and arguably with class warfare.
They’re proud of this.

📅 Today marks 83 years since the signing of the Treaty of Non-Aggression between Germany and the USSR.

Imagine being a regime so cruel, so arrogant, so evil that they’re proud of signing a pact with the Nazis, that started WW2, a week before Germany attack Poland, beginning their lubensraum genocide war which would encompass the Baltics, Belarus and Ukraine. The Russians should have known this would happen - Hitler made it clear that he wanted this lubensraum in Mein Kampf - also a war aim in World War One. A fact however is that ethnic Russian territory was hardly touched by war. It was the Belarussians, Ukrainians, Balts and Poles of the expanded USSR who suffered the most. Remember the USSR expanded its borders gobbling up half of Poland inhabited by Ukrainians, Poles, Lithuanians and Belarussians in the fourth partition of Poland (and the Balts). My grandmother was born in Poland to a mixed family of Ukrainian mother and Polish father - in Lwów (Lviv).
That’s my grandpa’s picture, handsome lad! Auschwitz and Dora survivor. He suffered thanks to Stalin and the Russian Empire. Yes I know Stalin was a Georgian. And Hitler an Austrian. Thank you, sit down.
At Nuremberg, the flawed charged of crime war of aggression was placed front and center because the Russians tried to turn the attack on rodina into the big crime of the war and not the Holocaust or other acts of genocide. This led to some serious embarrassment as the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was hidden from public knowledge to the eternal shame of the Western lawyers and soldiers present. The public also knew that the USSR had attacked Poland and Finland before being attacked by the Nazis. I also cover this in my chapters. in the post below and its covered in great books on the politics.
The charge of crime of war of aggression at Nuremberg was pure Russian hypocrisy and an attempt to whitewash the Jews out of World War Two, as had happened with the Kharkiv and Krasnoyarsk trials of Nazis and traitors during the war (also covered in my post above).

(Francine Hirsch - Soviet Judgment at Nuremberg)
The Russian MFA is proud of Russian actions - an axiom of Russian history and ideology is the one that drives them to genocide time and time again - Russia is always right and has never done wrong.
🗓 Today marks the 83rd anniversary of our first great flirtation with Nazism; the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact in Moscow.

👉 Included were secret protocols carving up Eastern Europe into our respective spheres of influence.
🚦 This pact green-lighted WW2 in Europe.
(parody account)
I cover Russian exceptionalism, messianic belief and how it combines with their religious military genocide mission in the war in Ukraine in our book.
Russia is always right and has never done wrong is at the core of Russian genocidal tendencies and Russia will never change until it lives up to its demons, evils and confronts its past honestly. To at least the same degree as the flawed confrontation of the past that Germany went through - I think deNazification did not go far enough.
This picture, from an ultra-nationalist Russian rag sums up all of Russia’s evils - religion, nostalgia, belief in military might. Pure religious fascism.
“But we cannot change ourselves,” - Patriarch Kirill.

"During the night of 16th to 17th September, the #Soviet armies crossed the Polish frontier. Their intentions? Unknown!
The brigade was ordered to move to the south, towards Halicz. We had the chance to 'sneak' between the German and Russians."

Darth Putin loves this day:
OTD in 1939 Poland, as a complete surprise to us, suddenly ceased to exist so we "entered to restore or order and protect our compatriots abroad". We ended up committing crimes against humanity. Definitely not an invasion.

Imagine that happening today
I like these two drawings, from the time, below, people knew!
80 years ago #OTD, September 17th, in 1939 Soviet Russia joins its ally Nazi Germany and attacks Poland. Brutal red terror and savagery arrives.

OTD 1939 Moscow, following its joint war plans with the Nazis, has joined German Wehrmacht and SS and attacked Poland from the East. Joint military operations climaxed in a joint military victory parade in Brest. My grandfather's brother was a Polish soldier, killed in this war.
