The Good Russian (TM) strikes again - supplemental

Vladislav Zubok genocidal talking points

One part of Zubok’s obscene Foreign Policy article kept me up last night:

In other words, the West must formulate a major policy vision that obviates the desire of Ukraine and its staunchest supporters to have Russia smashed and neutralized.

Every genocide has been framed in existential terms.

It’s us or them.

The Nazis said the Jews would destroy the Germans.

The Communists said the capitalists would destroy the workers.

The Hutus said the Tutsis would machete them all if they didn’t get macheted first.

The Serbs said the Muslims were out to get them.

Zubok is speaking the language of genocide, he is complicit in Russian genocide in Ukraine by repeating the Putin talking point of UKRAINIAN GENOCIDE ON RUSSIANS being the basis of invasion.

The Good Russian (TM) strikes again
I’ve been resting with a broken shoulder (snowboarding boomer) and a nasty virus - which I caught from my son. So I’ve been mostly off Twitter for physical, mental and emotional reasons. Plus Musk. Musk is a sociopath emotional toddler and he vastly irritates me with his Russian speaking points as well as propertarian bro nonsense.

Many (most, including academics, politicians and even lawyers) people think Ukraine v Russia at the International Court of Justice is about on-going Russian genocide against Ukraine. It’s not. It’s about the Russian justidifcation for their invasion being genocide on Russians.

The ICJ case doesn’t allege genocide by Russia
International law is difficult, sometimes it gets extremely difficult. Even lawyers in other fields have difficulty understanding this field - especially when they’re pompous and arrogant know-nothings. I’m no real expert but I can navigate most texts and cases to a fair degree.

You can see how dangerous this allegation is if Ukraine brought a case to defend itself against the allegation while suffering actual (not alleged) genocide.

Zubok is accussing Ukraine of planning genocide of a nation against Russia.

As a reminder, genocide is not just ovens and bullets.

Genocide is also the destruction of a nation as a nation.

You can commit genocide by stopping births, killing the culture or the language of a nation.

All of which Russia does now and previously against Ukraine - as covered in Lemkin’s Soviet Genocide Against Ukraine (complete text free).

Russian hysteria over Ukrainian genocide extends throughout society and it infects Zubok as well.

Russia smashed and neutralized.

This is the language of justification of genocide and war against Ukraine.

Zubok in this conflict is an old Russian imperialist who is an apologist for Russian genocide. I previously covered how all his talking points for a peace imposed by the West (and Russia) on Ukraine, are Kremlin talking points - consciously or subconsciously. He even constantly refers to the end of World War I, which every historian worth their salt knows led directly to the Holocaust, as a shining example of peace. It was a bad peace because Germany was not defeated forcibly, forced to reconcile with its history, forced to reform and the old elites remained, to stoke the fires of vengeance and genocide war. Which almost killed my family. I do not wish my son to die in a Russian gas chamber.

(Grandpa, our patron here on Fallout. I would be shot by Russians out of hand as both part of the Polish intelligentsia as a qualified lawyer and because of my public writing. Definitely on a kill list.)

Zubok implicitly villainizes Zelensky’s ten point plan as some kind of Morgenthau plan. In that he apes Goebbels and Putin - instilling existential fear of destruction in Russians. He makes Ukrainian demands out as unacceptable and ending in Russia smashed and neutralized.

So what are Zelensky’s genocidal demands?

1. Radiation and nuclear safety

2. Food security

3. Energy security

4. Prisoners and deportees

5. United Nations Charter and Ukraine’s territorial integrity

We must restore the validity of international law – and without any compromises with the aggressor. Because the UN Charter cannot be applied partially, selectively or at will.

Russia must reaffirm the territorial integrity of Ukraine within the framework of the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the applicable international legally binding documents. It is not up to negotiations.

6. Russian troops and hostilities

Russia must withdraw all its troops and armed formations from the territory of Ukraine. Ukraine’s control over all sections of our state border with Russia must be restored. This will result in a real and complete cessation of hostilities.

7. Justice

The world should endorse establishment of the Special Tribunal regarding the crime of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the creation of an international mechanism to compensate for all the damages caused by this war. Compensation at the expense of Russian assets, because it is the aggressor who must do everything to restore the justice violated by it.

8. Immediate protection of the environment

9. Prevention of escalation

Ukraine is not a member of any alliances. And Russia was able to start this war precisely because Ukraine remained in the grey zone – between the Euro-Atlantic world and the Russian imperialism.

We should hold an international conference to cement the key elements of the post-war security architecture in the Euro-Atlantic space, including guarantees for Ukraine. The main outcome of the conference should be the signing of the Kyiv Security Compact. (The nine-page Kyiv Security Compact published in September calls for Western countries to provide “political, financial, military and diplomatic resources” to boost Kyiv’s ability to defend itself.)

10. Confirmation of the end of the war

When all the anti-war measures are implemented, when security and justice begin to be restored, a document confirming the end of the war should be signed by the parties.

States ready to take the lead in this or that decision can become parties to the arrangement.

Which point exactly does Zubok object to?

Maybe Ukrainian territorial integrity. Does he want to vacation in Crimea only surrounded by fellow Russians? Maybe throw in Odessa for Zubok just to be fair.

Zubok is now complicit in Putin’s war by framing his article in the way he did.
